People pay mountain man to sting them with bees
A beekeeper of 15 years, Juan 'Abeja' cares for 50 hives of Rasa Italiana bees. In addition to the obvious business of honey, Juan gets paid to administer bee stings to human flesh every Tuesday and Saturday at a hotel rooftop in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Bee Sting Therapy (Apitherapy) has roots as old as 5,000 years and appears in accounts of ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Greek medicine.
Mike of British Colombia was in his seventh session of Bee Sting Therapy with Juan when I visited the roof of Hotel Santa Fe. He receives deliberate stings--12 in total--on his wrists and hands for arthritis as well as on his shoulders and head. It's said that the bees sting acupuncture pressure points
Patients receive no more than six stings in the first session. Juan administers a test sting to test a person's sensitivity to the venom. If an allergic reaction occurs Juan prescribes the consumption of three limes in lieu of an EpiPen.
